I never did Special Student Status for two reasons: 1. The classes are at the full Harvard College price (I think around $3000-$4000 per credit) and 2. The classes are mostly during the day (when I was at work).

However, I have some friends to took classes as Special Students and really enjoyed it. Of course, you need a minimum 3.33 GPA first, to qualify. I think if there are specific classes in Sociology that you want to take this is a very good plan, and you probably will not be disappointed by the rest of the curriculum.

Hi Patrick,
Did you ever got the opportunity to take some of you favorite classes as at Harvard College through the option of Special Student Status program? Whether or not, how tough is it to obtain this status to enroll in classes at Harvard College? I would like to use this option to do a program of study with the Sociology Department. I understand that as a Special Student, I would be limited to a maximum of 2 classes a semester(Fall and Spring) for one year, with the option to renew it for another year, which I plan to do so that I could complete a total of 8 classes with the Sociology Deparment. I want to do a concentration in this area. Since the Harvard Extension School doesn't offer this major, I feel that it's possible to do so through Special Student Status.

What are your personal thoughts about this option?
